Punjab Government Unveils New Admission Policy for Medical and Dental Colleges
The Punjab government has officially announced the admission policy for medical and dental colleges in the province. This announcement follows the policy’s approval from the provincial cabinet and was implemented after a notification from the Specialized Healthcare Department on Friday.
Changes Affecting Islamabad Students
A major change in the new policy affects students from Islamabad. Only three seats have been allocated for them in Punjab’s medical colleges, which means they will no longer be eligible for open merit admissions in MBBS programs. This shift has disappointed many students from the federal capital, who previously had broader opportunities to compete for admission on merit.
Expansion of Medical Education Capacity
In a positive development, Narowal Medical College has received permission to admit 100 students for the current academic year. This expansion will enhance the capacity for medical education in the province.
Application Timeline for Medical and Dental Colleges
The application process for government medical colleges will begin on October 21 and continue until November 4, 2024. Applications for private medical colleges can be submitted from November 5 to November 19, 2024. The application window for government dental colleges will open from November 20 to December 4, 2024, while private dental college applications will be accepted from December 5 to December 19, 2024.
Start Dates for MBBS and BDS Programs
Classes for the MBBS programs will start on February 1, 2025. The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) courses will begin on March 1, 2025. The University of Health Sciences (UHS) will manage the admissions process for both medical and dental colleges in Punjab.
