Punjab University Reschedules Exams Due to SCO Summit Security Measures

Punjab University has announced changes to its exam schedule due to the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, according to reports on Friday.

Canceled and Rescheduled Exams

A spokesperson for the university confirmed that exams originally set for October 14, 15, and 16 have been canceled. These exams will now take place on October 17, 18, and 19. However, exams in other cities across Punjab will proceed as per the previously announced schedule, with the exception of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Security Measures in Rawalpindi

In anticipation of the SCO summit, the Punjab government has implemented Section 144 in Rawalpindi for a duration of eight days to maintain security. A notification from the Punjab Home Department indicated that all political gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, protests, and similar activities would be prohibited in Rawalpindi during this time.

Additional Restrictions

The restrictions also extend to pillion riding, aerial firing, pigeon flying, and the use of drones and laser lights within city limits. This enforcement is set to remain in effect until October 17, according to the government’s notification aimed at preserving law and order and ensuring public safety. However, law enforcement personnel will be exempt from these restrictions.

SCO Summit Details

The SCO summit is scheduled to take place in Islamabad on October 15 and 16. To facilitate smooth operations during the event, the government has declared a three-day public holiday in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
