PTA Continues Its Crackdown on Illegal SIM Issuance
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office in Lahore, in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle, Lahore, has successfully conducted a raid targeting the illegal issuance of SIM cards. This operation is part of the PTA’s ongoing efforts to combat this issue and ensure compliance with telecom regulations.
Multiple Raids Conducted Across Lahore
Four raids were conducted at various locations in Lahore. Two of these raids targeted Zong franchises on Ferozepur Road and in Johar Town. The operations resulted in significant discoveries. Authorities confiscated seven suspected biometric verification system (BVS) devices, three mobile phones, 50 suspected SIM cards, and one laptop.
Key Arrests Made by FIA
In a major breakthrough, the FIA arrested the key operative of a fingerprint-scanning gang involved in the illegal SIM issuance. In addition, four other individuals, including the managers of the franchises, a Zong Business Development Officer (BDO), and a Distribution Sales Officer (DSO), were also taken into custody. Two FIRs have been registered in connection with the case, and the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing is continuing its investigation.
PTA’s Commitment to Eradicating Illegal SIM Issuance
This crackdown is part of PTA’s larger initiative to eliminate the illegal issuance of SIM cards. The Authority remains committed to curbing such illegal activities and ensuring the integrity of the telecom sector in Pakistan.
