Punjab Launches E-Auction for Personalized Number Plates
The Punjab government has introduced a pioneering e-auction system designed to streamline vehicle registration and number plate allocation. This digital platform allows residents to register their vehicles and bid for their desired number plates via a dedicated app and web portal. The new system aims to make the process more transparent, efficient, and accessible to all.
Easy Registration Process
The e-auction system, developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) in collaboration with the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department, has been designed to simplify the bidding process for vehicle license plates. Participants can now easily register for the e-auction through the dedicated app or website, allowing them to bid on specific vehicle numbers from the comfort of their homes.
This innovative system enables users to view details of previous winning bids, helping them to make informed decisions on which number plates to place bids for. The registration for the system will remain open until December 31, 2024, providing ample time for participants to select their preferred vehicle numbers.
User-Friendly App and Web Platform
The user-friendly interface of the app and web portal ensures that even individuals with limited technological expertise can navigate the system effortlessly. According to Faisal Yousaf, Chairman of the PITB, the e-auction system is highly accessible, allowing anyone to sign up and participate in the bidding process.
The app provides an overview of ongoing and completed auctions, allowing users to track the progress of their bids and view the final auction results. The system aims to increase transparency and efficiency in the allocation of vehicle registration numbers, a task that traditionally involved cumbersome paperwork and long wait times.
Anti-Misuse Measures in Government Departments
Alongside the launch of the e-auction system, the Pakistan Customs has introduced a new policy to curb the misuse of authority among government personnel. The policy specifically targets the use of smuggled or tempered cars by government officers.
To prevent the personal use of impounded vehicles, the government has canceled the No Objection Certificates (NOCs) of all cars that officials were using. This policy is part of the broader effort to ensure that government resources are not misused for personal gain, and it emphasizes accountability within the public sector.
Restrictions on Vehicle Use by Customs Officials
Under the new policy, the Customs Intelligence Office at the provincial level can use a maximum of ten cars. This rule aims to prevent the illegal use of vehicles and ensures that only authorized personnel have access. The vehicles are strictly for official duties, reducing the potential for misuse.
