Starlink Granted Temporary NOC to Launch Satellite Internet in Pakistan

In a significant step toward strengthening Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, Elon Musk’s Starlink has been awarded a temporary No Objection Certificate (NOC) to initiate its services in the country.

Official Confirmation from the Information Minister

On Friday, Information Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja confirmed this development, stating that Starlink’s temporary registration was approved in line with directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

She highlighted that the decision followed extensive discussions and agreement among all relevant security and regulatory authorities.

PTA to Oversee Compliance

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will be responsible for ensuring that Starlink operates within the nation’s regulatory guidelines, fulfilling licensing conditions and financial commitments. “This represents a major milestone in Pakistan’s journey toward digital transformation,” Shaza noted. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sharif, the country is making remarkable progress in upgrading its internet infrastructure,” she further stated.

Expanding Nationwide Connectivity

The Prime Minister has called for sweeping reforms to strengthen internet access across the country, with Starlink’s registration playing a key role in achieving this goal.

Emphasizing the game-changing impact of satellite internet, the minister underscored how this initiative would significantly improve connectivity, especially in rural and underserved regions.

“Cutting-edge solutions such as satellite internet will not only enhance connectivity but also help bridge Pakistan’s digital divide,” she stated.

Multi-Agency Collaboration for Starlink’s Approval

The government’s facilitation of Starlink’s entry into Pakistan was the result of a coordinated effort among various entities, including cybercrime agencies, the PTA, and the Space Authority.

Expressing confidence in this initiative, Shaza affirmed that this milestone would pave the way for the full-scale introduction of satellite-based internet services, heralding a new chapter in Pakistan’s digital connectivity landscape.
