PTA Decides to Grant License to Starlink to boost internet speed

According to officials from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the decision to grant Starlink a license to operate in Pakistan has been finalized in principle. The only hurdle remaining is the completion of security clearance. Once this process is completed, Starlink will officially be licensed to provide its high-speed satellite internet services in the country.

Security Clearance Pending

“Starlink’s license is ready, and only security clearance is pending,” confirmed PTA officials. This clearance is a crucial step in ensuring that all regulatory and security standards are met before Starlink can begin operations in Pakistan.

Boosting Connectivity in Remote Areas

The arrival of Starlink’s satellite internet services is expected to significantly enhance internet connectivity across Pakistan, particularly in rural and remote areas. These regions often suffer from limited or unreliable broadband services, and Starlink’s high-speed internet can help bridge this gap. By providing satellite-based connectivity, the service will offer a reliable alternative to traditional broadband options, which can be challenging to implement in hard-to-reach locations.

Collaboration with Suparco

Starlink must enter a commercial agreement with Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) to start operations. This agreement will detail the terms of Starlink’s service. The PTA must approve the agreement before Starlink can launch its services in Pakistan.

Launch Timeline and Impact

Starlink’s service is expected to launch in Pakistan within the next year. This will give citizens access to reliable, high-speed satellite internet. The rollout is a crucial step in bridging the digital divide in the country. Fast internet will particularly benefit underserved areas. It is expected to create new opportunities in business, education, and economic development. This will further enhance the country’s technological advancement.
