PTA Continues Crackdown on Illegal Issuance of SIMs
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office in Lahore, in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle, conducted a successful raid today on a Ufone franchise located in Burewala. This action targeted the franchise due to its involvement in the illegal issuance of SIM cards, a serious issue impacting telecommunications security.
Seizure of Evidence and Arrests
During the raid, authorities uncovered 14 active SIMs, 25 suspicious SIMs, five biometric verification system (BVS) devices, and three mobile phones at the franchise. The FIA team confiscated these items as evidence in the case. Additionally, two retailers were arrested on the spot, and the FIA has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the suspects. The Cyber Crime Circle is now conducting a thorough investigation to address all aspects of the illegal SIM activation process.
PTA’s Efforts to Combat Illegal SIM Activity
The raid was initiated based on a complaint filed by the PTA with the FIA, which highlighted illegal SIM activations within the franchise’s sales channel. This operation is part of the PTA’s broader campaign to curb illegal SIM issuance and safeguard telecommunications integrity in Pakistan.
PTA’s Dedication to Eliminating Unauthorized SIM Issuance
This crackdown reflects PTA’s ongoing commitment to eradicating unauthorized SIM issuance and preventing fraudulent activities within the telecommunications sector. The authority’s close coordination with law enforcement underscores its determination to address and prevent illegal practices within the industry.
