MDCAT 2024 Retake to Be Held on December 8: Key Details and Updates

The Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) 2024 will be re-conducted on December 8, 2024, as announced by the provincial health department. This decision comes in light of allegations surrounding the integrity of the initial examination, including claims of a paper leak.

Why Is MDCAT 2024 Being Held Again?

The decision to retake the MDCAT stems from the findings of a probe initiated after the Sindh High Court received complaints regarding the test’s credibility. A committee determined that the September 22 MDCAT was compromised due to:

  • Weak regulatory frameworks in educational institutions and examination boards.
  • Poor coordination between the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and universities conducting the test.

The Sindh High Court directed the provincial government to retake the exam within four weeks, ensuring it is conducted under stricter protocols.

New MDCAT Test Schedule and Centres

The upcoming MDCAT will be organized by Sukkur IBA Testing Services (SIBA) and will cater to 38,609 candidates. To facilitate smooth execution, multiple centres will be set up across Sindh:

Examination Centres

  • Karachi: Three centres
  • Hyderabad: One centre
  • Mirpurkhas: One centre
  • Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah): One centre
  • Sukkur: One centre
  • Larkana: One centre

Important Updates for Candidates

Candidates are advised to regularly check the STS (SIBA Testing Services) website for updates regarding their assigned test centres and other important instructions.

Financial Arrangements for the Retake

The Sindh Government has allocated Rs232.14 million to ensure the smooth conduct of the retake. This allocation guarantees that all candidates who appeared in the previous test can sit for the re-conducted exam free of cost.

Court-Mandated Improvements

To restore trust in the examination process, the Sindh High Court also instructed the provincial government to employ the services of reputable institutions like IBA Karachi or IBA Sukkur. These steps aim to ensure:

  1. Strict monitoring of the exam process.
  2. Secure handling of examination papers to prevent future leaks.
  3. Enhanced collaboration between the PMDC and testing authorities.

Candidate Advisory

Candidates are encouraged to:

  • Visit the STS website frequently for updates on their test centres and admit cards.
  • Prepare thoroughly for the retake, as this effort ensures a fair chance for everyone.

This re-conducted MDCAT aims to uphold the integrity of the medical admission process and provide candidates with a transparent and fair opportunity.
