Emirates made headlines at the Dubai Airshow 2025 by placing a major order for 65 more Boeing 777-9 aircraft powered by GE9X engines. The deal is valued at USD 38 billion and strengthens the airline’s position as the world’s largest operator of the Boeing 777.
With this announcement, Emirates’ total Boeing orderbook now reaches 315 widebody jets, which include 270 Boeing 777Xs, 10 Boeing 777 freighters, and 35 Boeing 787s. The airline has also increased its GE9X engine order to 540 units, further cementing its long-term partnership with GE Aerospace. According to Emirates, this massive investment supports high-value aerospace manufacturing jobs across the United States for many years.
A key highlight of the agreement is Emirates’ backing for Boeing’s feasibility study on the new 777-10. The airline has secured options to convert part of its latest 777-9 order into the 777-10 or the 777-8. This flexibility reflects Emirates’ interest in larger, more efficient aircraft that can support rising global air travel demand and help airlines navigate growing airport capacity constraints.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, said the order aligns with Dubai’s long-term growth plans. He stressed that Emirates remains committed to operating a young and modern fleet equipped with advanced cabin products. The airline expects delivery of its first 777-9 aircraft in the second quarter of 2027.
Sheikh Ahmed also emphasized Emirates’ support for Boeing’s study on the 777-10, noting that higher-capacity aircraft are essential for the future of aviation, especially as air traffic continues to expand globally.
Boeing, on its part, expressed appreciation for Emirates’ continued trust. Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said that Emirates has played a key role in the success of the 777 family over the past four decades. She reaffirmed Boeing’s commitment to supporting the airline as it grows its network and modernizes its fleet.
GE Aerospace echoed similar sentiments. Russell Stokes, President and CEO for Commercial Engines & Services, highlighted the strong partnership with Emirates and the airline’s confidence in GE’s technology. He stated that GE is ready to support Emirates with expertise, durability, and high-performance engine solutions.
Emirates has flown every model of the Boeing 777 over the past 40 years and today operates the world’s largest fleet of the aircraft. Its current fleet of Boeing 777-300ERs, 777-200LRs, and 777 freighters connects Dubai to more than 140 destinations across six continents, supporting tourism, trade, and global commerce.
After this latest order, Emirates will continue receiving Boeing aircraft deliveries through 2038. This long-term plan ensures ongoing collaboration with thousands of skilled workers in multiple US states who manufacture and assemble the 777X and its GE9X engines.
Emirates’ new commitment not only marks one of the largest deals in the aviation industry this year, but also signals confidence in the future of long-haul travel and next-generation widebody jets.
